Knight Under the Lights
The Knight Under the Lights officially kicked off the season on Friday August 16, 2024 after the pep rally. The middle school kicked off the 'knight' with a mile time trial of each grade + gender. Following the middle school, the Lady Knights ran a 3K race effort. RESULTS HERE. Annie Czajkowski paced the way for the ladies with a 10:28 for the 3000m track run, followed by the pack of Addie Farrah, Emily Dansak, Jillian Ryba, Anna Rakvic, Anna Dansak and Kaelyn Lazar to wrap up the top 7. The girls Top 5 average was 11:00, over 10+ seconds faster than last year. Following the girls, the boys ran a blistering 3000m on the track as well. A couple top boys were out, but Thomas Gaydos ran a 9:15, recording the fastest 3K Under the Lights time ever. Following Thomas were Enzo Jiancristoforo, Owen Rankin, Ben McBride, Kaden Markovich, Atticus Knight and Alex Barrett. It was a great 'knight' to showcase the newly distributed uniforms and see all the summer work payoff.
Riverside Kickoff Classic Night Invite
On Saturday August 24th, NorwinXC traveled to Ohio for the Riverside Kickoff Classic Night Invitational. The night meet began at 7:10 pm with the Boys Open Race. Owen Turgeon paced the Knights with a 24th place 19:02 finish, followed by Mike Makay in 79th with a 19:56 time and Richie Zula in 154th out of over 470 runners! The Girls Open Race featured freshmen duo of Claire Sherman and Molly Edwards. Molly moved up a ton to finish in 5th overall with a time of 22:03 followed by Claire in 13th with a time of 20:39 out of over 325 runners.
The Boys Varsity ran the next race and finished a strong 5th place beating PA Top 5 team Manheim Township. Norwin ran without one of its top runners in Luke Simpson, who will race in two weeks. Leading the Knights were medalists Enzo Jiancristoforo in 18th (16:02), Thomas Gaydos in 19th (16:11) and Mario Breauchy in 30th (16:35). Following the senior trio were freshmen Alex Barret in 78th with a stellar time of 17:24, Owen Rankin in 83rd and Maerek Moessens in 87th, Ben McBride in 90th, Kaden Markovich in 109th and Atticus Knight in 114, all cracking the 18:00 barrier. Will Little rounded out the top 10 by finishing at 18:11 for the Knights.
The Girls Varsity dominated the field finishing in 1st place with only 46 pts.! The girls dominated several strong schools by placing 4 runners in the Top 12 led by Annie Czajkowski's 18:31, winning by almost :30 seconds in the field of over 325 girls. Following Annie was Addie Farrah in 6th (19:28), Emily Dansak in 7th (19:29), Jillian Ryba in 12th in 19:36 and Anna Dansak in 20th with 19:51. Senior Anna Rakvic medaled and sophomore Kaelyn Lazar rounded out the top 7 for the Lady Knights in 32nd and 56th. Elin Bash finished in 76th, Emily Schaeffer in 158th, and Ciera Berthelsen in 180th. Some new rankings should happen after that dominating performance.

Gateway Invitational
On a hot and humid Saturday August 31st, NorwinXC traveled to Boyce Park for the Gateway Invitational. The Knights rested some varsity athletes, which gave some harriers a chance to run varsity for the first time. The Lady Knights Varsity started off the day with a breakout performance from sophomore Kaelyn Lazar. Kaelyn finished in 3rd overall with a time of 21:50 on the hilly terrain. Following Kaelyn were a trio of freshmen in medalist Molly Edwards (17th), Claire Sherman (25th), and Faith Shepherd (32nd). Closing out the varsity squad for the girls was Emily Schaeffer, Ciera Berthelsen, and Lily Chaney. In the Boys Varsity Race, freshmen Will Little surged in the second half to move from 20th to 10th place in 18:10 on the challenging course. Atticus Knight was the other lone medalist in 18th place in 28:26 for the Knights. Also competing in varsity were Maerek Moessens (22nd), Kaden Markovich (26th), Mike Makay, Owen Turgeon, and Richie Zula.

On Saturday September 7th, NorwinXC traveled to the prestigious Red, White & Blue Invitational at White Oak Park. Over 100 schools were entered in the races, and thousands of athletes. PA MileSplit Girls Merged Results/ PA MileSplit Boys Merged Results.
The Girls Varsity kicked off the day by giving PA #1 and NXR Regional #3 North Allegheny a run for their money. The girls led the race through 2.5 miles, but NA closed the gap the last 1K to give Norwin girls a runner up by a margin of 88 to 101. Leading the way for the Knights were medalists Annie Czajkowski with a 7th place finish, followed by Addie Farrah and Jillian Ryba in 16th + 17th place. Emily + Anna Dansak finished in 29th and 37th place to close out the scoring, while Anna Rakvic and Kaelyn Lazar finished in 41st and 55th place.
The Boys Varsity ran a strong race and finished in 5th overall, 2nd in the WPIAL to North Allegheny as well. Leading the way for the Knights was a senior trio of Thomas Gaydos (6th), Enzo Jiancristoforo (16th) and Luke Simpson (26th). Thomas' time of 15:58 was a personal best and the first boy to crack the 16:00 barrier since state medalist Alex Jubert in 2020 on the same course. Section Meet: @ Ligonier Valley + Latrobe
On Tuesday September 10th, NorwinXC traveled to Antiochian Village to race Ligonier Valley and Latrobe. The boys and girls both kicked off the Section schedule with easy wins. The Girls started the day off with a strong race to put away a Top 5 WPIAL team in Latrobe. The girls used a pack mentality to gap the Wildcats. Annie Czajkowski led the way for the Lady Knights with a big win, closing the gap on Emerson Skatell from Latrobe who edged her last week at RWB. Following Annie and Skatell (Latrobe) were Addie Farrah, Emily Dansak, Jillian Ryba and Anna Dansak all ahead of Latrobe's #2 runner. The girls won 19-41 over Latrobe and 15-50 over Ligonier Valley.
On the boys' side, the Boys also won easy over Latrobe and Ligonier with scores of 17-42 over Latrobe and 15-50 over Ligonier Valley. Leading the way for the boys was the senior trio of Thomas Gaydos, Enzo Jiancristoforo, and Luke Simpson who go 1-2-3 to seal the meet. Rounding out the Top 7 for the boys were Owen Rankin, Alex Barrett, Maerek Moessens, and Kaden Markovich. It was a beautiful day for a great kickoff to Section play.

Section Meet: Senior 'Knight' vs. Penn Trafford + Derry
On Tuesday September 17, NorwinXC hosted its annual Senior Knight against Penn Trafford and Derry. NorwinXC defeated both opponents with ease. The NorwinXC Girls kicked off the day with 15-50 victories over Penn Trafford and 15-48 over Derry. Anna Rakvic captured her first meet victory on Senior Knight with a time of 22:34, sweeping the Top 5 spots. The NorwinXC Boys easily defeated Penn Trafford 20-43 and Derry 15-50. Jake McGhee won the race, but the Knights took the next 10 spots in the meet to seal the win. Following the races, the team celebrated the 14 seniors with cupcakes and family introductions.
Blue Devil Invitational
On Saturday September 21, NorwinXC traveled to Buhl Park to compete in the Blue Devil Invitational. It was another Great Day to be a Knight for all the squads from the Middle School right through the JV and Varsity races. NorwinXC captured ALL FOUR team trophies for Boys Varsity, Girls Varsity, Girls JV, and Boys JV.
The NorwinXC Girls started off the day with an Invite victory over the other 23 teams in the field, including 2nd place Section rival Latrobe. The course was about :30 slower than previous years due to heat and course changes. Leading the way for the Knights was Annie Czajkowski fighting the fall cold sweeping through the school in a 3rd place finish in 19:05. Sophomores Addie Farrah (20:03) and Jillian Ryba (20:06) finished in 6th and 7th. Senior Anna Rakvic stepped up and finished 4th on the team in 17th overall. The Dansak twins rounded out the Top 6 for the Lady Knights. Following the Girls Varsity, the JV Girls also captured 1st place overall dominating the field with a near perfect score of 16. The girls swept the race upfront capturing the Top 4 spots overall. Freshmen Molly Edwards won her first Invitational pulling away from the field with a time of 22:20. Following Edwards, Faith Shepherd, Claire Sherman and Ciera Berthelsen. Lily Chaney finished 5th on the team followed by Alexa Eislich and Emily Schaeffer.

The boys were led by a huge invitational victory with a time of 16:12 beating all 219 runners in the race. Gaydos battled with Quaker Valley Jonah Montagnese throughout the 3.1 mile course exchanging leads with the runner until Gaydos pulled away the last 400 meters. Following Gaydos was seniors Luke Simpson and Mario Breauchy in 5th and 13th overall. Rounding out the top 5 was Alex Barrett and Ben McBride in 19th and 24th. Owen Rankin and Enzo Jiancristoforo, who battled a cold, to finish out the squad in 7th. The Norwin Boys JV squad also closed out the day with a big victory. The JV Boys battled Quaker Valley and defeated them 33-34 winning some close races with QV. William Little ran a great race from the front and won the 96 person race with a fast time of 17:28 for his first Invitational victory. Following Little was Atticus Knight (4th), Kaden Markovich (6th), and Maerek Moessens (9th), and Griffin Bucklin (13th). Closing out the Top 7 were Mike Makay (15th) and Richard Zula (16th).

Hempfield + Indiana
On Tuesday September 24, NorwinXC traveled to Hempfield to race against the Spartans and Indiana. The NorwinXC Girls defeated Hempfield 15-50 and Indiana 15-48. The girls braved the hilly, rocky, muddy course to come out with clean victories lead by pack running through the course. The NorwinXC boys defeated the Spartans 24-31 and 15-50 over Indiana. The boys faced their toughest opponent in the Section against a Top 10 WPIAL team. The boys also were down a few senior runners due to injury and illness. The other two seniors came through and Gaydos and Simpson lead the sweep up front pulling away from the pack. Following the seniors, was the freshmen trio of Ben McBride, Alex Barrett, and Will Little. The freshmen stepped up and broke up the Hempfield pack to seal the win and keep the perfect records of 6-0 on the season.
Greensburg Salem & Yough
On Tuesday October 1, NorwinXC traveled to Greensburg Salem to race the Greensburg and Yough. The boys raced first on the muddy course. The boys came through 15-50 due to the fact the Lions only had 4 runners, while the Cougars only had 3 male runners. The boys put a solid effort with lots of PR's and Season Bests. The NorwinXC Girls raced next and earned wins of 15-48 and 15-50 to Greensburg Salem and Yough. The girls tempo ran the first half of the race while the 'wolf pack' chased down the Greensburg runners to capture the first 5 spots.
The race sealed the Section with a perfect 8-0 record for both the boys and girls. It was the third straight time that the boys and girls captured the Section titles and have a perfect 48-0 record combined. Congratulations on carrying on the Pride, Tradition & Family legacy.

Bald Eagle Invitational
On Saturday Oct. 6, the NorwinXC Squad dominated the Bald Eagle Invitational at White Oak Park. The Boys Squad took 5 of the top 6 spots in the AAA Race to finish with 18 points, ahead of second place Taylor Alderdice's 40 pts. Leading the way for the Knights was Luke Simpson in 2nd overall and 1st in AAA Race with a time of 16:03, followed by teammate Thomas Gaydos in 16:05 and second overall. In 4th place was senior Enzo Jiancristoforo (16:19), Ben McBride in 5th in 16:42 and Will Little in 6th with 16:51. Leading the way for the JV Boys was the 1-2 punch of Mario Breauchy in 1st overall in 17:15 followed by Maerek Moenssens in 2nd overall with a time of 17:42.
For the NorwinXC Girls, the girls captured 5 of the top 7 spots with Addie Farrah leading the way in 2nd with a time of 19:12 followed by sophomore teammate Jillian Ryba in 3rd in 19:21. Emily Dansak and Anna Dansak finished 5th and 6th overall in 19:51 and 19:53, followed in 7th by Kaelyn Lazar in 20:20. The JV Girls also dominated the JV race led by freshmen Claire Sherman with the overall win in 21:21 followed by Faith Shepherd in 22:08 for 3rd overall in the JV race.
For the NorwinXC Girls, the girls captured 5 of the top 7 spots with Addie Farrah leading the way in 2nd with a time of 19:12 followed by sophomore teammate Jillian Ryba in 3rd in 19:21. Emily Dansak and Anna Dansak finished 5th and 6th overall in 19:51 and 19:53, followed in 7th by Kaelyn Lazar in 20:20. The JV Girls also dominated the JV race led by freshmen Claire Sherman with the overall win in 21:21 followed by Faith Shepherd in 22:08 for 3rd overall in the JV race.
Westmoreland County Coaches Association Championship
On Wednesday October 9th, NorwinXC traveled to Westmoreland County Community College to kick off Championship October with its annual County Championship. The Knights swept all 15 schools in the County and took home all the trophies for varsity and jv, boys and girls. Starting the day off was the Boys Varsity race at 3:00 pm. The Varsity Boys used a pack mentality to front run and put the meet away 31-58 over Section rival Hempfield to capture their 2nd straight County title. The boys placed 4 runners in the top 10 to seal the victory. Enzo Jiancristoforo (2nd) in 16:16, Luke Simpson (3rd) in 16:19, Thomas Gaydos (5th) in 16:33 and freshmen phenom Ben McBride (6th) in 16:35. Closing out the scoring for the Knights was senior Mario Breauchy in in 17th, while freshmen duo of Will Little and Alex Barrett finished in 21st and 23rd, despite Alex carrying one shoe for the 3 miles of the 3.1 mile course.
The Varsity Girls also dominated the field by medaling 5 of 7 runners to seal the victory over #4 WPIAL Latrobe with a score of 32-49. Leading the charge for the girls was junior Annie Czajkowski (3rd) in 19:09, sophomores Addie Farrah (5th) in 19:36, Jillian Ryba (6th) in 19:39, Anna Dansak (10th) in 20:01, and Emily Dansak (11th) in 20:03. Rounding out the varsity was senior Anna Rakvic in one spot off a medal in 16th and Jillian Ryba in 17th. The girls captured their 3rd straight County Title.

Sophomore Owen Rankin ran away from his teammates in the final 400 meters to seal the overall win in 17:49. Juniors Atticus Knight and Maerek Moessens were right on his heels in 17:50 and 17:54 for 2nd ant 3rd overall. Senior Caden Markovich ran a solid 4th place in 18:04, followed by junior Richie Zula with his best race of the season in 11th place and a 19:01 time. Braden Pierce and Mike Makay rounded out the Top 7 for the Boys JV squad to seal the victory.

TSTCA JV Championships @ White Oak Park
On Monday October 19, the JV Squads traveled to White Oak Park for the TSTCA JV Championship. Both the Boys and Girls dominated the competition with the boys capturing 5 of the top 6, including the Top 4; while the girls captured 3 of the top 4 spots, including the top 2 spots overall. For the Girls, Molly Edwards paced the way winning her second invitational of the year. Molly ran 21:14 to finish :04 ahead of fellow freshman Claire Sherman and :08 faster than freshman Faith Shepherd in 21:22. Also medaling for the girls was Ciera Berthelsen in 7th. The girls captured first with 31 pts, while Hampton finished in 2nd with 52 pts.
For the NorwinXC Boys JV Squad, the team dominated the meet with 16 pts overall, beating 2nd place Hempfield 16-41. The JV Squad was led by freshmen Alex Barrett who ran an impressive 16:48. Senior Kaden Markovich put together his best race of the season with a second place finish in 17:35, followed by juniors Maerek Moenssens in 3rd and Atticus Knight in 4th with times of 17:51 and 17:54. Rounding out the scoring was sophomore Owen Rankin in 5th. Also medaling for the Boys JV Squad was Mike Makay, Griffin Bucklin, Richie Zula, and Braden Pierce. The boys took home 9 of the 20 medals.
